Website

loomcraft.co.za — the small holes

Not a redesign case. The site is on Wix, it loads fast and it is reasonably organised. These are the specific things that are costing something, in order of what they cost.

What is working

  • It is quick. First byte in 0.38 seconds, served from a cache.
  • Every image has alt text. Genuinely uncommon, and it helps both search and screen readers.
  • The product structure is sensible — upholstery, printed ranges, curtaining, linings and sheers, workwear, hardware, each with its own page.

Four things worth fixing

1. Shared links show no picture

There is no og:image on the homepage. Every time the site is shared — on WhatsApp to a client, in a LinkedIn post, on Facebook — it renders as a bare grey box with text.

For a business whose entire product is visual, this is the highest return per minute of work on the list. One image, once.

og:image on the homepage: absent

2. Nobody can tap the phone number

Both numbers appear as plain text. On a phone, pressing them does nothing. There is also no WhatsApp route anywhere on the site.

A trade buyer checking stock reaches for the phone, not a form.

tel: links across the site: 0 · WhatsApp: 0 · numbers present as text: 011 760 3603 / 011 760 3606

3. Two ranges are sitting behind placeholder URLs

Two pages are live with copy-of- still in the address. They are not junk — they are real ranges. One is Basketweave, the other Mozambique.

They also carry a “do not index” instruction while being listed in the sitemap, so the site is telling Google to find them and ignore them at the same time.

/copy-of-printed-velvet-dcBasketweave · /copy-of-printed-vinylMozambique · both HTTP 200

4. The homepage has no main heading

There is no <h1> on the homepage. Search engines use it as the strongest single signal of what a page is about. On Wix this is usually a matter of switching a text block to a heading style.

<h1> elements on the homepage: 0

One inconsistency to settle

The About page says “roots dating back to 1964”. LinkedIn says founded 1976. Both are used publicly. Heritage is an asset for a manufacturer — worth picking the right number and using it everywhere.

What is deliberately not on this list

The site does not need rebuilding. It is on Wix, which is fine for what it does, and a new build is not what would move the cut-length number. Everything above is an afternoon of edits inside the existing site.
